Philips Stadium – Eindhoven
The situation
The Philips Stadion is the permanent home of an Edivisie club and welcomes, on average, more than 32.500 visitors per game. In addition to soccer games, the stadium is also used for large-scale events, such as cocnerts during the summer. This means dealing with peak times, large visitor flows and a diverse target group. A smooth and reliable access system is essential in this situation, both for visitors and for the organization itself.
The challenge
In 2017, the need arose to accept different types of tickets simultaneously. Season tickets with barcodes or NFC, paper tickets, and e-tickets all had to be accepted by the same scanners. At the same time, the system had to continue functioning in the event of a network outage. Furthermore, tickets came from multiple sales channels and had to be valid at the correct entrance, and there was a need for faster processing and shorter wait times.
The solution
Ticket Team redesigned the entire entry flow with XSControl software, where events are created and tickets are imported. Scan units with barcode and NFC readers ensure fast and user-friendly checks, supported by handheld scanners and steward displays. Full-height tourniquets have been replaced by low tripods for a friendlier appearance and better flow. The software runs from the Ticket Team Cloud, which reduces the load on local IT.
The result
After an intensive start-up phase, the system has been running stably and reliably over the past few seasons. There is always real-time insight into visitor numbers and crowd levels per entrance, allowing for quick adjustments. Queues have largely disappeared, and empty seats can be better utilized. The short lines of communication with support and the rapid implementation of improvements create trust and a partnership focused on continuous optimization.
